Richard Chris Markos, 75, a proud veteran and lifelong resident of Battle Creek passed away on January 13, 2024 in Stuart, Florida at The Cleveland Clinic Hospital.

Chris, as he was known to many, was born August 13, 1948 to Nicholas and Rosemond (Drew) Markos.  He attended Battle Creek Central High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served from 1967-1969.  As a Specialist 4th Class, Chris saw action in Vietnam, and he had many amazing stories of his time there.

After his time in the service, Chris returned home and married Mary Jane Adams on March 28, 1970. Together, they built a beautiful life together and had a son, Tony Markos.

Chris worked at Clark Equipment for 18 years and then 20 years at the Battle Creek HDI Federal Center before retiring in 2001.  After retirement, Chris and Janie realized a dream and spent the next 19 winters in sunny Stuart, Florida where he enjoyed helping with the Cedar Pointe Village 7 Men’s Club.

Chris found his passion in flipping houses and was always looking for a good deal that he could revive and make beautiful again.

Chris belonged to the American Legion Post #298 and was a lifelong member of the Bedford Lodge #207 F&AM.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas & Rosemond Markos; brothers, Jamie Markos, Drew Markos and Ronnie Markos; sisters, Zara Markos, Nicolette Visker, Marcia Yaw, Effie Thiede; and half-sisters, Violet Markos and Evelyn Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Janie Markos; son, Tony Markos; granddaughter, Hailie Markos; his brother, Henry Markos; and sister, Becky Warren.
