Richard C. "Dick" Walker

June 27, 1935 — October 19, 2023

Battle Creek

Richard “Dick” C. Walker was born June 27, 1935, to Durward and Marian (Ingram) Walker in Battle Creek, Michigan.  Dick went to Lakeview Schools through the 5th grade when they moved to a farm near Lee Lake.  He graduated from Marshall Schools where he had the lead role in “When Stars Shine”.  Dick served in the Air National Guard and attended Kellogg Community College.  Dick met his wife Barbara, at the YMCA Young Adults Club.  Richard’s career started at Clark Equipment Company in Chicago.  He then worked for Consumers Power Company in Battle Creek for 42 years in the Engineering Department.

Richard married Barbara L. Walker on July 1, 1961, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage.  He was preceded in death by Barbara, May 2, 2019. Surviving Richard are his sons Jeffrey (Carolyn) and Stephen (Christine).  Grandchildren are Trina (David), Nicholas (Morgan), Emily (Reese), Logan (Marie) and Justin and step-grandchildren Ariana and Karsten; brother Robert (Mary Ann) Walker.

Richard had been a member of the Lion’s Club of Marshall and served as President (twice).  He attended Pennfield Presbyterian Church and served as President for the Battle Creek Engineering Club. He was an avid gardener and meticulous about his flowers and yard.

Dick genuinely enjoyed life and his time at Lakeview Assisted Living.  He helped to organize the library and was a dedicated Bingo Caller!  Dick was elected as “Mayor of Lakeview Assisted Living” by his fellow residents and was also nominated as the Senior Prom King in 2022.  Dick was always looking out for others, volunteering, and searching for ways to assist residents and staff.  He was very creative and lived his life in a warm, light-hearted manner. He enjoyed being around people and was very social as shown by his involvement.  Each morning, after breakfast, he enjoyed dog sitting “Uma”.

His family gives thanks for his life, the lessons he taught, guidance and for the examples he set.  We will always remember his generosity, selfless spirit, willingness to help others and his love of family.

Until we meet again….
