Rita Dorothy Hemmerling of Battle Creek, MI & formerly of Chicago, IL

Rita, age 101, died Thursday evening, December 19, 2019 at her residence.

Rita, the daughter of Paul and Clara (Jantsch) Hemmerling, was born in Chicago, IL on September 29, 1918 and. She moved to this area in 2010 to be with her sister, Therese Nicolaiafter spending most of her life in Chicago. Rita was a retired office worker for the Standard Oil Company of Chicago. She was an active member of St. Andrews Catholic Church of Chicago, IL; loved to travel and cheered heartily for her beloved Chicago, Cubs.

Surviving is her brother David (Joanne) Hemmerling of Grays Lake, IL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Clara, Therese, Helen and Sylvia and her brothers, Arthur, Clement, Joseph, Edmund and Vincent.

The Graveside Service to celebrate Rita's life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (CST) in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 3100 Thatcher Avenue, River Grove, Il 60171. There will be no local visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rita's honor may be directed to the Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek (269-962-5527) is assisting Rita's family.
