Robert (“Bob” Mr. Galli, “Bobby”) James Galli, age 88, a lifelong resident of Battle Creek passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, after being stricken at home.
Bob was born June 18, 1936, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of James and Lydia (Baird) Galli. He was a 1954 graduate of Battle Creek Central High. During his days in high school, he was on the school’s Track team and fought in Golden Gloves Tournaments.
Robert James Galli was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Wright in Battle Creek on February 26, 1955. For nearly 70 years, they celebrated their Anniversary at Schuler’s Restaurant in Marshall, Michigan. In December 1955, he was the Courtesy Driver of the Week and awarded $10.00 in cash by the Central Iron and Metal Co. In 1957, he started an apprenticeship at Eaton Corp. to become a Tool and Die maker. Bob retired in 1991 from the Kellogg Company, Battle Creek after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year’s Club and Moose Lodge #676 Marshall, Michigan. Bob had many laughable words with his lifelong friends, in which, he played softball, bowled, fished and hunted with, and later played golf and cards together. He also golfed and bowled with Shirley in several couple’s leagues, his partner of nearly 70 years. A favorite saying was, “It’s a dang poor secretary who couldn’t win his own league.” But most of all, his daughters, grandsons, and great grandsons were his priority. There was absolutely nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Friends and neighbors could call him anytime for help.
Bob is survived by Shirley, his wife of nearly 70 years; daughters, Robin Galli of Indianapolis, IN, Debra O’Heran of Bloomington, IN; grandsons, Robert (Megan) O’Heran of Washington D.C., Nicholas O’Heran of Winter Springs, FL, Patrick (Maggie) O’Heran of Bloomington, IN; great-grandsons, Mason O’Heran, Charles O’Heran, three step grandchildren, Jayleece, Amelia, Isaac; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Victor, Daryle; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jack Carbine and brother-in-law, Bill Wright.
