Robert L. "Bob" Johnson

September 15, 1936 — February 6, 2022

Robert L. "Bob" Johnson, age 85, of Galesburg passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 6, 2022. He was born in Lufkin, Texas on September 15, 1936, the loving son of Robert and Vera Johnson. Bob grew up in Tennessee and graduated from the Kirkman Vocational School in Chattanooga, Tennessee with the Class of 1955. Bob worked at Hydreco in Kalamazoo for more than 24 years and then worked at Denso Manufacturing. After starting with only two tires, Bob started Bob's Tire Clinic which became Michigan's largest Hoosier Tires dealer for more than 30 years until retiring in 2006.

Bob married Sharon Kay Davis in Ringgold, Georgia on October 16, 1984; she sadly preceded him in death on March 1, 2018. He is also survived by his son, Tony (Ana) Bowker of Galesburg; daughters, Wanda (Charles) Ashley and Donna (Michael) Long, both of Battle Creek; his longtime friend, Michael (Deb) Stamm of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren, Austin Stamm of Kalamazoo, Krystal (Joe) Hubbard of Augusta, Michael Crandal of Battle Creek, Adam (Jordan) Crandal of Kansas; and several other grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gerlene; and two brothers, Larry & Donnie.

Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge in Battle Creek. He loved all types of racing and of course, selling racing tires. Bob would often be heard Proudly sharing that he still continues to hold the Track Record at Galesburg Speedway for most consecutive feature wins. He also enjoyed driving around in his truck, listening to classic country, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every evening at Tony & Ana's, and spending time with his family. Bob usually could be found at his home, riding around on his golf cart picking up sticks, mowing his grass, and feeding the ducks.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00p.m., Wednesday, February 9th at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel where funeral services to celebrate Bob's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Augusta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Centrica Care Navigators.
