Robert Frank Moore, son of the late Frank L. Moore and Gladys Lewis Moore, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on June 9, 2022. He was born on August 16, 1929 in Battle Creek. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1947 and earned a Tool & Die Makers Certificate at Pine Lake Vocational Institute in Plainwell. He served in the Air Force National Guard and on active duty during the Korean War at Selfridge Field, north of Detroit. Bob was employed as a tool and die maker at H.B. Sherman Manufacturing for 29 years followed by 17 years at Denso Manufacturing. As a committed union member of the International Tool and Die Makers Union he took on the role of shop steward and later was treasurer for the International.
He and his wife of 71 years, Arlene J. Moore, raised three children - Gary Moore of Durham, North Carolina, Jeffrey Moore, of Holly, Michigan, and Janice (Moore) Bockmeyer, of Brooklyn, New York. They traveled widely throughout the United States and Europe, enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan, and were members of the First Presbyterian Church
Bob and Arlene first joined First Presbyterian Church approximately 60 years ago where Bob served as a Deacon and Trustee and on various committees including the First Presbyterian Retreat Center Committee. There he co-created the Retreat Center nature trail, designed and constructed a Nature Education Kiosk and "Pavilion in the Pines" trail lean-to. He was also a long-time Scout Master of the Church's Boy Scout Troop 309, taking his troop camping and hiking frequently in lower Michigan. He was a passionate amateur black-and-white landscape photographer, capturing scenes during his travels, sailing, and of his scouting adventures and producing them in his darkroom.
One of his greatest passions was chess. He was a long-time manager of the Battle Creek Chess Club and active tournament player, winning and placing in Michigan state and local tournaments throughout his life.
In addition to his wife and three children, Bob is survived by two grandchildren, Emily and Anton Bockmeyer of Brooklyn, New York; two step-grandchildren, Emily Bate of Philadelphia and Alice Bate of Royal Oak; and a step-grandson, Isaac Noriega.
