Robert Eugene Pratt

Robert E. Pratt, 89, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.

He was born in Battle Creek on October 6, 1926, the loving son of Milford E. and Lola E. (Garriott) Pratt. Robert graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1944 and furthered his education at Western Michigan University. Robert faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1944 – 1947, serving in the Pacific Theatre, including the Philippines and Japan. After returning from his service time, Robert worked for the AB Stove Company from 1948 – 1954 and in 1986, retired as Senior Vice President & Treasurer at People's Savings & Loan Association with more than 32 years of faithful service.

Robert married June O. Dunn in Battle Creek on September 24, 1955; she sadly preceded him in death on March 5, 1996. He is survived by his children, Gary E. Pratt of Battle Creek and Deborah L. Schnelker of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren, Jeff, Andrew & Kristen Schnelker, Karen (Chris) Fuller, and Keith M. (Leslie) Pratt; his great-grandchild, Korinn Aisley Fuller; his step-children, James (Kay) Beley of Seattle, Washington and Jill Fadden of Grand Rapids, his step-grandchildren, Jim, Brad, Pam, Brian, and his sister, Virginia (Bob) Davis of Battle Creek. Robert was also preceded in death by his infant son, Michael John Pratt.

Robert was a member of the Board of Directors at the Y-Center and an avid swimmer, sometimes seven days a week. He was a wonderful father and was always willing to help his children.

Funeral services with full military honors to celebrate Robert's life will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery with Fr. James F. Adams, officiating. Memorials may be directed to Arcadia Home Care & Staffing, 77 South 20th St., Suite D, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
