Robert Glenn Riddle, 79, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away at the Bronson Battle Creek, on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 of complications due to pneumonia.
Bob was born June 22, 1937 in Asheville, North Carolina, to Glenn William and Wilma Elizabeth Fox Riddle. He joined the U.S. Navy upon graduating from North Buncombe High School. In 1962 he married Virginia Lee Babcock, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and together they traveled extensively with the U.S. Navy. After retiring in 1977 with the rank of Petty Office-E-6, Bob returned with his family to Battle Creek, Michigan. He subsequently spent five years in the Merchant Marines, and 20 years as Maintenance Supervisor with Pennfield Schools.
Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and sister, Sylvia Riddle Huggins, he is survived by three sons; Scott G. Riddle, of Battle Creek, Michigan, Marty L. Riddle and Todd A. Riddle of Asheville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vickie Riddle Currin (Michael) Patricia Riddle Clark, (Vincent) of Asheville, North Carolina.
Bob had many hobbies, including, playing the guitar, fishing, boating, and listening to music. He was a strong Christian and positive role model for all of those around him. Over the years, he conducted and participated in numerous Bible studies. He was generous, caring, and compassionate to all, even to those who only knew him slightly.
A visitation will be held 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Following the visitation family and friends are invited to drive in procession to Ft. Custer National Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Ft Custer Honor Guards 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016.
