Robert G. "Bob" Winer, age 97, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, November 5, 2017. Bob was born in Sturgis, Michigan on March 21, 1920, the loving son of Alvin N. and Dora I. (Wimmer) Winer. Bob faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII from July 1942 to November 1945. He retired in 1982 after more than 40 years as a pressman with the Sturgis Daily Journal and then the Battle Creek Enquirer. Bob enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with family.
Bob married the "Love of His Life", Juanita V. Bowman in Indiana on May 31, 1941. He is survived by his wife of more than 76 years, Juanita; two nephews, James (Sharon) Parker of Howe, Indiana and Joseph (Madeleine) Parker of Sturgis; six great-nieces, Shelly, Jan, Diane, Julie, Elizabeth, and Ann Jeanette; two great-nephews, Chris and Jerry; and his sister-in-law, Jeanne Winer of Battle Creek. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services with full military honors to celebrate Bob's life will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
