Roberta A. Moorhead

Roberta A. Moorhead, 85, formerly of Battle Creek, died at Ingham County Medical Care Facility on Sunday, September 14, 2014.

She was born November 16, 1928 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Hamilton C. and Gladys (Snyder) Gillespie. Roberta grew up in Erie, PA., was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Penn State and went on to receive her Master of Library Science from Carnegie University in Pittsburg. Roberta was a librarian in the Wayne County Library System for 17 years, retiring in 1981.

Roberta A. Gillespie was united in marriage to Frederick S. Moorhead on July 14, 1951 at Church of the Covenant in Erie, PA. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Fred of 63 years on March 5, 2013. Surviving are her two daughters, Wendy J. (Christopher) Adam of Bondi Junction N.S.W., Australia and Margaret L. (Michael) Lane of Grapevine, TX; a son, Thomas F. (Mary Beth) Moorhead of Williamston, MI; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean O'Gorman) Adam, Murray (Aliza) Adam, Sean (Amanda) Moorhead, Caitlyn Moorhead and Matthew Lane; four great-grandchildren and a brother, Phil (Carol) Gillespie.

Roberta was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Elizabeth Circle and Steven Ministry. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Roberta enjoyed playing Bridge and reading. She loved to spend time with her friends and family and especially enjoyed the fellowship at her church.

Funeral services to celebrate Roberta's life will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Patricia J. Weatherwax. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
