Roger Dale Boyer of Battle Creek, MI

Roger, age 70, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, October 25, 2020 at his son, Dwayne's residence.

Roger, the son of James M. and Erma J. (Hendricks) Boyer, III was born in Quincy, IL on July 21, 1950 and moved to this area in 1972. He served his Country honorably and nobly during the Vietnam War (1969-1972) in the United States Army. Roger retired in 2005 after 30+ years of faithful employment with the Battle Creek Public School System as an Extra Duty Engineer. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan right down to the "Lion's Den," where he faithfully watched his beloved Lions, for better or worse. Roger also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his friends; watching TV; doing karaoke and playing bingo.

Roger was united in marriage to the former, Bonnie Jean Etter in Battle Creek on July 8, 1972 and she sadly preceded him in death on December 2, 2011. Surviving is his daughter, Cynthia "Cindy' (DeMerio) Channey, Sr. of Battle Creek; two sons, Johnathon Boyer and Dwayne (Barbie) Boyer, both of Battle Creek; nine precious grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Schmalshof of Quincy, IL and Ruby Van Loock of Yakima, WA; his brother, John (Linda) Boyer of Bellingham, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Boyer on April 15, 1968 ; five sisters and three brothers.

The Graveside Service to celebrate Roger's life will be held on Friday, October 30th at 3:00 p.m. in Bedford Township Cemetery, 21962 North Bedford Road, Battle Creek, MI 49017, with the Rev. Paul Parker of the Cornerstone Community Church, officiating and the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard will bestow military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to defray final expenses. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek is assisting Roger's family.
