Roger Allen Horner

June 21, 1939 — September 10, 2017

Roger Allen Horner of Battle Creek, MI

Roger, age 78, died Sunday morning, September 10, 2017 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

Roger, the youngest of nine children born to Faroline (Ryal) Horner and James H. Horner. He was born in Mancelona, MI (Antrim) and lived there until the age of 16. He moved to Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1958. He played football and basketball in school.

Roger met the woman of his dreams and couldn't wait to marry Vera "Faye" Warner. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1959. They were inseparable until Faye's death in 2005.

Roger Horner worked 30 years at the Kellogg Company, running the vendo line on second shift. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 year club joining in 1990. Roger retired from Kellogg Company in November 1995. He had a great work ethic and was an excellent provider for his wife and four children.

They just don't make them like Roger anymore. His kindhearted nature made people feel welcomed and he enjoyed making new friends. Always ready to accept another member into his extended "family". He was an avid outdoorsman. He was passionate about hunting whitetail deer and fishing with family. He would take walks in the woods, spotting buck rubs, small deer tracks and enjoying the nature of Michigan.

While Roger and Faye were busy parents raising four children; they enjoyed vacationing as a family and visited almost every state in the USA. Packing picnic lunches and stopping at the wayside picnic tables to refresh. Every Sunday, when he wasn't working at Kellogg's, he and his family enjoyed Faye's homemade chicken and dumplings after church. Sunday dinners also included listening to the vintage country and western music of Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, Dolly, Tammy, George, and Conway.

He loved sitting out on his front porch telling stories and jokes while waving to neighbors. His smile and caring way was infectious, you just loved being around this man. He was everyone's favorite Uncle. Roger and Faye spent evenings together on the front porch watching storms or driving in the country looking for deer. He had a keen eye for spotting whitetails. Every year, the always successful hunter, would have some of his venison processed and give it to friends, family, and neighbors.

Surviving are his daughters; Susan "Sue Bee" Horner, Cindy (KIM Allen) Anderson, Michelle Horner, granddaughter Krissy Anderson, grandson Mark Anderson, great-grandson Jaxson Anderson, "adopted" daughter Diane DeKoster, daughter Sherri (Jeff) Sutherland, grandchildren; Brett, Jillian, Wade, Peyton Sutherland and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Faye, son James A. "Jimmy" Horner in 2016, grandson Xander in 2003.
