Roger L. Wedig, Jr., 63, of Augusta, died Saturday, January 16, 2021. He passed on the same day as his father, two years ago. Roger was born September 1, 1957 in Cincinnati, OH to Roger and Donna (Sexton) Wedig, Sr. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and worked in the sheet metal union as a journeyman for many years.
Roger was married to his beloved wife of 40 years, the former Jana Cutler on July 12, 1980, who survives. He is also survived by his three children, Amber (Jay) Whipple, Joshua Wedig (Kendolyn Minor) and Paige (Jack) Weaver; two sisters, Diana Chenoweth and Dawn (Jason) Fitch and 13 grandchildren.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Tammy Kohler and a great-nephew, Riley Rhoades.
Roger was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and do anything that involved being outside. He was also a man of faith and studied the Bible. He was a long-time member of the Augusta Bible Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a song leader and the Awana Director for many years and he helped lead many people to Christ. He had a sense of humor and could always make people laugh. He was an adored father, Loving Brother and caring husband and above all else, "Papa" was a true family man and was happiest when he was with his grandchildren and family.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 24th, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel, where funeral services to celebrate Roger's life will be Monday, January 25th at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Don Ibbotson. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider Gift of Life.
