Roland F. "Woody" Woodcock

October 30, 1922 — March 13, 2014

Roland "Woody" Woodcock, age 91, of Richland passed away March 13, 2014. He was born October 30, 1922, the son of Frank and Marie (Paulson) Woodcock who preceded him in death. A graduate of East Jordan High school and Central Michigan University where he was a varsity football, basketball and track athlete. He joined the Navy in 1942 where he had an outstanding tour of duty for 33 years as a ranking Captain.

He was united in Marriage in January 1948 to Mary Jane Simmons; she survives. They had two children, Cynthia (Woodcock) Luedecking and Thomas John Woodcock who are both deceased. Also surviving are two brothers, Bruce Woodcock and Larry Woodcock; one sister, Barbara (Woodcock) Gibbard; four grandchildren, Lisa and Tommy (Luedecking)O'Brien of Elmhurst, IL, Erin and Mike (Luedecking) Zimmer of Oak Park, IL, Andy and Amanda Luedecking of Cincinnati, OH and Michael and Chelsea Luedecking of Royal Oak, MI and 9 Great-Grandchildren.

He taught and coached in the Richland School system as well as a Sales Representative for a cement company retiring in 2008.

Woody was an ardent University of Michigan football fan. He and Mary Jane attended all games, both home and away for many years. They also enjoyed many years together traveling the world.

He was an active parishioner of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Augusta. He also served on the Village Board of Richland for 18 years; 6 years as the President. He spent 17 years on the Richland Township Fire Department. He also served 14 years on the Fourth of July parade as a chairman.

In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service was held at Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home in Richland, MI. Interment at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland will be held at a later date.
