Ronald “Ron” Elder Sr., 75, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 1, 2025. He was born in Battle Creek to Johnnie Elder and Verna Marietta Reed, and spent his youth growing up in both Dayton, Tennessee and Battle Creek, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Elizabeth Elder; and his sister, Teresa Harmon.
Ron is survived by his brother, Charles Elder of Dayton, TN.; his daughter, Marry Reuter (and Scott McQuern) of Dayton, TN and two sons Ronald “Ron” Jr. (and Sonja) Elder, and Charles (and Nikki) Elder, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ron enjoyed his many years of retirement. When at home, he spent his time watching the wildlife through his window, and watching baseball, football, or golf on the tv. He was a Tigers, Lions, and University of Michigan fan. When he was not at home you could find him on the golf course with his league friends or spending time with family and friends watching endless cornhole tournaments. Ron was always more of an observer at gatherings, but you could guarantee to see a smile on his face and see him chatting it up when any of his grand or great grandkids were nearby. He loved being a papa. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation & Preneed Care, 105 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, where funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7th. Interment will follow at Hicks West Pennfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice. Personal messages for the family and/or favorite memories of Ron may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
