Ronald Leo Hattis, 79, of Athens, MI died at home on November 16th, 2021. Ron was born in Vicksburg, Michigan on July 22, 1942, the son of Stanley and Helena (Shlagor) Hattis. He was a 1960 graduate of Vicksburg High School and honorably served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964. He graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1970. Ron joined the Battle Creek Police Department as a patrolman in 1971, was promoted to sergeant in 1981 and retired in 1994.
Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his friends and family. Ron was a lifetime member of the Centurion Motorcycle Club of Toledo, Ohio.
Ron is survived by his children, Lisa (Kelly) Kerner of Battle Creek, MI, Erika (Tom) Rines of Caledonia, MI and Clifton Hindmarsh of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Brittany (Ryan) Cunningham, Damian Hammer, Brendan Hammer, Haley Kerner, Logan Kerner, Cole Kerner; great-grandson, Kaiden Cunningham; siblings, Althea Smith, Stanley Hattis Jr., Larry Hattis, Yona Reed; longtime companion, Louise Holmes; and his former wife, Susan Wilhelmsen.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Janice Applebey.
A service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021.
