Ronald E. "Ron" Martens, 76, of Battle Creek, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek.  He was born at home, January 13, 1937 in Battle Creek the son of Victor J. and Evay (Morrison) Martens.  He attended Battle Creek Central High School and honorably served his country in the Air National Guard for three years.  He was a maintenance welder for GMC (Fisher Body), working for 32 years and retiring in 1996.
  Ron married Betty L. Cable in Battle Creek on June 30, 1956.
   Surviving is his wife Betty,  a son, Jeff (Wendy) Martens; a daughter, Kim Martens; five grandchildren, Rev. Jeremy (Debi) Martens, Ronald David Martens, Melanie (Jeff) Lake, Quintina Mendez, Caleb Mendez, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Milo Denise Martens; a aunt, Audrey Hamlin, a special friend Tracy Mendez, who was like a daughter and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marvia Tredwell and a brother, Steven Carney.
    Ron and his family built their home, he loved his farm, farming and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping.  Ron had an extensive arrowhead and Indian artifact collection that fill his home for years. His collection started on his land and connected with his own ancestry.
    A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy O. Martens officiating. Follow the service interment will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
