Ross Leroy "Doc" Ellis of Battle Creek, MI

Ross, age 81, died Monday afternoon, November 5, 2018 at the Care Community of Springfield, MI.

Ross, the son of Harry Levine and Helen Louise (Headlee) Ellis, was born in Battle Creek on November 17, 1936; lived in the area until 1994, then moving to Florida and back to the Care Community in 2017 and was a 1956 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He had been a dental technician at the Battle Creek Dental Lab from 1956 to 1959. Doc then was employed at Kellogg Company retiring in 1994 after 33 years of faithful service as the Union Steward and was a member of its 25 Year Club. He was also a TV and Radio Repairman in his spare time and also restored antique autos, pinball machines and neon signs. Ross was known as Mr. Fix-it in the area his whole life starting in elementary school which earned him the nickname: DOC!

Ross is survived by three daughters, Ginny (Gary) Pennala of Ishpeming, MI, Angela (James) Spencer of Drummond Island, MI and Christina (Tony) Ramirez of Killeen, TX; his son, Bernard R. (Candi) Ellis of Battle Creek; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and step-children, Tina (Tucker) Delafield and Jason Delafield, all of Cove, TX, Donald Tucker of Battle Creek and Joanie Bassler of Marshall, MI. Doc was married to the former Margaret L. Portman in Battle Creek on August of 1959 and they divorced in 1976. He then was married to Vivian E. Tucker in Battle Creek in May of 1977 and this ended in divorce in 2017. Doc was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Ellis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 92 Capital Avenue, NE, with Father John D. Fleckenstein, Celebrant. Doc's family will greet friends on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. to Mass time. Interment will follow in Reese Cemetery, Springfield, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doc's honor may be directed to the Care Community, 565 General Avenue, Springfield, MI 49037 or Mass cards to St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek is assisting Doc's family.
