Ross Frederick Fahling, age 91, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on Sunday morning, July 3, 2022. He was born in Battle Creek on May 23, 1931 the son of Peter E. and Beatrice L. (Keech) Fahling. Ross graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1949 and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He retired from Grand Trunk Railroad, and had previously worked at Post, Eaton, Haze in Albion and Interbake Foods.
Ross married Patricia Gail "Patsy" "Pat" Wilson on June 7, 1953; she preceded him in death on July 13, 2012. He then married Shirley J. Ashley on December 12, 2012; she survives. Ross is also survived by his children, Ronald (Loraine) Fahling of Battle Creek and Rhonda (Lou) Demetriou of Florida; his grandchildren, Josh (Christine) Fulbright, Ronald II. (Brandi) Fahling, Charlie (Chris) Fulbright, Stephanie (Dallas) Johnston; and his great-grandchildren, Imajin, Trace, Zoey, Noah, Amelia and Elliot. He is further survived by Shirley's children, Dolly, Jack (Karen), John, Jerry (Kathy) Montague, Maria (Joel) Auton; her eleven grandchildren; her 24 great-grandchildren; and her 13 great-great grandchildren. Ross was also preceded in death by his parents; and his grandson, Justin Hammock.
Ross was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. An avid Detroit Tigers fan, Ross played baseball in high school and in the United States Air Force. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes, camping & fishing. Ross truly loved life, mostly when the family would come to visit, especially the grandkids.
The family would like to thank Ashley Vick, Janice Ezell and the entire caring staff at Elara Caring Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they showed to Ross in his final weeks.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 7th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where services to celebrate his life will begin at 12:00 noon. The service will be Live-streamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/727771745. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
