Ross L. Ramer

Ross L. Ramer, 71 of Springfield, MI passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Ross was born in Battle Creek on May 15, 1952, the son of Robert and Denzil (Burlison) Ramer. Ross was a proud 1970 graduate of Springfield High School, where he was a standout three-sport athlete in football, wrestling and baseball. He attended Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University. In 1974, he began his apprenticeship in plumbing at Crook’s Plumbing and further learned his trade at Clyde Hanger Plumbing. Ross opened his own business, RJ Plumbing in 1986, until his retirement in 2014.

Ross was united in marriage to Debbie Chamberlain at St. Jerome Catholic Church on February 12, 1977. Surviving are his wife, Debbie; son, Jeffrey (Alison) Ramer; grandson, Patrick Ramer; uncle, Jim Cline; and many cousins and dear life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jedalee Bishop.

Ross’ great joy was coaching. For many years he coached children in Springfield and at St. Philip. He especially loved teaching baseball skills to his son and teams. He cherished every minute he was able to spend with his grandson, Patrick. After his retirement, Ross and Debbie spent time in Alabama and Florida; and traveling overseas. Anyone who knew Ross realized how he loved to be with people … many times he was the first one there and the last to leave. We will miss his joy for life.  

Friends will be received 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, where a service to celebrate Ross’ life will be officiated by Deacon James Nelson at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023. The service will be live-streamed and may be viewed by visiting https://vimeo.com/event/2669260. Committal and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Ross’ love for people was extended to others through Gift of Life Michigan.
