Russell William "Russ" Harrison, age 92, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, January 31, 2019. He was born in Augusta, Michigan on July 3, 1926, and graduated from the W.K. Kellogg Agricultural School with the Class of 1945. Russ retired from Consumers Power on August 1, 1988 after exactly 41 years of service.
Russ married Margaret Ann Henry at the Maple United Methodist Church in Battle Creek on October 28, 1950; she sadly preceded him in death on March 19, 1989. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Bill) Fulcher of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Kalli (Ryan) Overmyer of Kalamazoo, Wendy (Lee) Lightcap of Battle Creek, and Will Fulcher of Texas; his longtime loving companion, Julie Joshick of Battle Creek; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Walter "Dick" Lois Harrison of Banfield, Michigan. Russ was also sadly preceded in death by his son, Terry Russell Harrison on October 19, 2014, and nine brothers & sisters.
Russ was a member of the Eagles Aerie # 299 in Battle Creek and a former member of the Bedford Lions Club and the Hardy Dam Club. Russ truly loved spending time with his family, especially time with his grandchildren and watching his great-grandsons' baseball games. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and never missed a game, and when the Tigers weren't playing he would be watching Gun Smoke or the Lone Ranger. Over the years, Russ enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, bowling, riding his motorcycle, camping, traveling in his motorhome, and played softball with the Consumers Kilowatts for many years.
The family will receive friends 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3rd at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 4th with Celebrant Jonathon Barnes, officiating.
