Ruth Emogene Cain, 82, formerly of Richland and Charleston Township, MI died unexpectedly, but peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Thursday March 3, 2016 at her residence in Colorado Springs, Co.
She was born May 17, 1933 in Charleston, West Virginia the daughter of Henry Calvert and Esther Emmogene (Brown) Darnell. Ruth grew up in Charleston, West Virginia and Wilmore, Kentucky; was a 1951 graduate of Wilmore High School and attended Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN. Early in life she was employed at a local department store soda fountain and Bell Telephone. She later became a licensed real estate broker in Oklahoma and was also licensed in Michigan.
Ruth E. Darnell was united in marriage to Robert Lee Cain on January 28, 1953 in Charleston, West Virginia. Sadly Ruth was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 49 years on November 12, 2002 and a son, Robert L. Cain, Jr. on June 7, 2007. Surviving are a son, William O. (Lori) Cain of Portage, MI; daughters Melissa J. (Bill) Ackerman of Galesburg, MI, and Cynthia L. (David) Hendrix of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law, Wendy Cain of Farmington Hills, MI; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 16 nieces, nephews and their families and special friends. In addition to her husband and son, Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Ralph, Ronald, Russell & Robert Darnell.
Ruth was a member of the Comstock United Methodist Church, attended the Hickory Corners Wesleyan Church; was previously active in the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Kalamazoo and served on the Board at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. She was a homemaker and devoted Air Force wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved to play the piano and harp; and spend time with family and friends. She will be remembered as an Angel on Earth who loved her Lord, and as a gifted musician, poet, and cook.
Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue, Richland, MI 49068. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Len Davis 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at the funeral home. Committal and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
