Ruth E. O'Dell

Ruth Elizabeth O'Dell passed away peacefully on the morning of November 26, 2016, at the age of 93.

Ruth was born June 17,1923, in Bellevue, Ml, to Faith and Howard Moon, and grew up in Marshall, Ml as the oldest of nine children. She was preceded in death by siblings Richard, Charles, Lucille, Cecil and June; she is survived by Kent Moon of Marshall, Janet Walker of Battle Creek, and Robert (Karen) Moon of Williamston.

Ruth was the mother of eight daughters and grandmother to seventeen, with many great- and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Poole, and is survived by her daughters, Pat (Charles) Thomas of Galesburg, Sue Randolph of Battle Creek, Judy Almaraz of Battle Creek, Mallie Hopkins of Memphis, TN, Carolyn (Gary) Swallows of Phoenix, AZ, Juanita (Richard) Thompson of Columbus, GA, and Brenda (Mark) Clise of Kalamazoo

Ruth was a long time K Mart employee, retiring in 1982 after 20 plus years of service. Ruth found peace and strength in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and through the years volunteered in different capacities at the churches she attended and in the communities in which she lived. Ruth's favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family. Her competitive spirit showed in playing cards and board games, which she immensely enjoyed. Music was an important part of her life. She enjoyed singing and listening to music, and learned to play the piano, organ and slide guitar. Her favorites to play and sing were old hymns.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow the funeral at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
