Ruthann (Smith) Bucksot of Ellettsville, IN
Ruthann, age 77, died Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014 at Bloomington (IN) Hospital following an 11 month illness and surrounded by her loving family.
Ruthann, the daughter of Granvil and Lily Mae (Russell) Smith, was born March 6, 1937 in Kokomo, IN. She was a 1954 graduate of Kokomo High School and moved to this area in 1961. Ruthann was an x-ray technician at Bloomington Hospital and Southern Indiana Radiological Association and was a receptionist at Cancer Care Center of Southern Indiana, retiring in 2000. She then was a volunteer receptionist for the Area 10 Agency on Aging of Ellettsville until her illness last August. She received numerous awards for her unending volunteerism including The Golden Hoosier Award presented by Lieutenant Governor in Indianapolis in 2009 , which is the highest award bestowed to a Senior Citizen Volunteer in Indiana and the Maurice Endwright Award in 2008. Besides her passion for volunteering, the other passion in life was her family, especially the grandkids.
Ruthann was united in marriage to Donald F. Bucksot on July 6, 1961 in Greentown, IN and he sadly preceded her in death on December 3, 1999. Surviving and cherishing her memory are two daughters, Cindy J. (Charlie) Johnson of Augusta, MI and Andrea (Bob Harvey) Deckard of Robinson, IL; her three sons, David J. (Debbie) Vandercook of Indianapolis, IN, Jay D. (Terri) Bucksot and Patrick A. (Beth) Bucksot, both of Reelsboro, NC; ten grandchildren, Erik L. Johnson, Kelsey L. (Mike) McEntee, Christopher D. (Crissy) Vandercook, Leslie J. Deckard, Dusty J. Deckard, Molly L. Bucksot, Aaron F. Bucksot, Jacob A. Bucksot, Marissa A. Bucksot and David A. Bucksot; two great grandchildren, Devin and Brooklyn Vandercook; her brother, James (June) Smith of Kokomo, IN and her two brother-in-laws, Terry (Patsy) Bucksot of Fortville, IN and Ron (Julie) Bucksot of Marietta, GA. Ruthann was preceded in death by her parents and twin granddaughters, Rebecca and Elizabeth Bucksot.
The Memorial Gathering to celebrate Ruthann's life was held on Saturday, July 26th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Area 10 Agency on Aging and was truly a Celebration of her Life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruthann's honor may be directed to the Area 10 Agency on Aging, 631 Edgewood Drive, Ellettsville, IN 47429.
