Sallie Mae (Weeks) Selinger

Sallie M. Selinger, 85, of Battle Creek died unexpectedly at Borgess Medical Center on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

Sallie was born June 20, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Lyle J. and Clara J (Griffin) Weeks. She grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1947 graduate of Lakeview High.

Sallie was united in marriage to C.W. "Bill" Selinger on September 10, 1949, at the First Congregational Church. Sadly she was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 53 years on October 20, 2002. Surviving are a daughter, Laurie A. Selinger of Woodridge, IL; three sons, Charles W. Selinger, Jr. of Kalamazoo, R. Thomas (Jill) Selinger of Grayslake, IL, Steve J. (Vickie) Selinger of Williamston, MI; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, Sallie was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Sallie was a member of the First Congregational Church, and a member of its Prayer Shawl and the Susan Winslow Church Circle. She has been a volunteer at the hospital since 1968 and was currently a member of Bronson Battle Creek Volunteers, formerly known as the Battle Creek Health System Auxiliary. Sallie has been active on various committees in her condo association. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and cooking; but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a cherished friend and beloved mother.

Friends will be received at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 1:00–3:00 p.m. & 5:00-7:00 Friday. Funeral services will be held in the Miller Chapel at the First Congregational Church 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, with Rev. Thomas J. Ott officiating. Arrangements are by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
