Samuel Cloyce Chronister, 93, of Battle Creek died at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Monday, June 12, 2017.
Sam was born November 12, 1923 in Lansing, Michigan to Cloyce and Nellie Kathryn (Boroff) Chronister. He grew up in Battle Creek and was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He honorably served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army with the 87 Mortar Battalion. He was wounded in action from shrapnel and received two purple hearts. Sam was employed 1953-1978 for the Battle Creek Fire Department and retired as a Lieutenant after 25 faithful years.
He married Frances Brewer on March 9, 1946 in Battle Creek. Sadly he was preceded in death by his devoted wife on October 17, 2015. Surviving is his daughter, Jane Eichhorn of Portage, Indiana.
Sam was laid to rest next to his wife, Frances, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
