Sandra Ballman-Burke, 68, passed away at home on May 5, 2021. She was born September 4, 1952 to Frank and Martha Ballman. Sandi's fascination with animals, plants, and books of all kinds began in childhood. She spoke fondly of summers spent on Lake St. Clair, and enjoyed visits to beaches throughout her life.
On November 19, 1977 there was a beautiful wedding celebrating the love between her and Harold Burke. This love guided the way as they navigated 26 years of marriage.
The 1980's blessed Sandi with two daughters, which she raised on a foundation of compassion, teaching a deep respect for themselves, the planet, and it's inhabitants.
Holding both her bachelor's and master's in sociology through Western Michigan University paired with her passions and drive lead Sandi on a journey as Program Coordinator at WMU's Center for Women's Services, and Education Director at the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
Surviving, to carry on her wisdom, are her two daughters, Christina and Katherine and her granddaughter Alexandra. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents.
The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. A graveside service to celebrate Sandi's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Battle Creek Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan or the American Cancer Society.
