Sandra Sue "Sandy" (Hixon) Noteboom Wood

Sandra Sue "Sandy" (Hixon) Noteboom Wood, 82, of Galesburg and formerly of Augusta died peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice with her family at her side.

Sandy was born July 3, 1938 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Walter Luzern and Bertha Rose (DeVries) Hixon. She grew up at Gull Lake Franklin Beach and was a 1955 graduate of WK Kellogg Agricultural School. She received her Associates Degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She was employed with the Kalamazoo County Sherriff's Patrol and Animal Control during the 1960's-80's. She was a Politician, and in the 1970's was the first woman to be Chairperson of the Kalamazoo Board of Commissioners. Sandy was a former Supervisor and Treasurer of Ross Township and president of Galesburg-Augusta School Board. She was on the original team that started Gull Lake Area Ambulance Service. When her children were growing up, Sandy was a 4-H Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilt making. Sandy loved her family and friends, was the life of the party and fun to be around. Sandy will be remembered as outgoing and willing to help others.

Sandy was preceded in death by two husbands, Joseph L. Noteboom on February 21, 1982 and David Nathaniel Wood on September 7, 2008. Surviving are her children Christopher B. (Stacy) Noteboom of Augusta, Lynette M. (Ken) Kissinger of Galesburg; four grandsons, Nate, Nicklas and Mikael Kissinger, Tyler Stephens; a sister, Sonja "Toni" Pennock of Hickory Corners and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to her husbands, Sandy was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Peter Hixon.
