Sara Elizabeth "Bette" Hinton, age 77, of Battle Creek passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2019 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born in Battle Creek on March 6,1942 the daughter of Francis and Mildred (Yetter) Davis. Bette retired on April 30, 2004 after more than 33 years of faithful service as an RN at the Battle Creek and Marion, Indiana VA Medical Centers.
Bette is survived by her children, Laura (Gary) Greenfield of Pinckney, Michigan, Ernest "Ernie" (Holly) Engelhardt of Richland, Sara (Khalil Banane) Engelhardt of Augusta, and Suzanne Odem of Battle Creek; her grandchildren, Andrew, Jesse, Emily, Isaac; and her sister, Jayne Matthews of Florida. She was sadly preceded in death by her parents, and two grandsons, Patrick and Wyatt.
Fondly known as the "Paula Deen of the North", Bette loved to cook. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR and her favorite driver Tony Stewart, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially time with her "boys", Ernie and her grandsons.
A memorial service to celebrate Sara's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 21st at the Fort Custer Christian Assembly Church, 301 Custer Drive Battle Creek, MI 49037.
