Sarah (Medina) Gibson, 95, of Battle Creek, Michigan died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
She was born March 2, 1925 in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico the daughter of Silverio and Isidra (Feliciano) Medina. Sarah grew up in Santurce, where she was a 1945 high school graduate and attended the University for nursing one year. Sarah came to Battle Creek in 1948 and worked briefly in nursing. Most of her life she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Sarah Medina was united in marriage to Jay W. Gibson May 11, 1948 in Sylvania, Ohio. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Jay on March 27, 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Maritza "Marty" (Ronald) Gibson-DeBoer of Battle Creek, Nilda E. (Fernando) Gibson- Guajardo of Galesburg; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren along with their families; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband, Sarah was also preceded in death by a daughter, Delia Gibson Logan; four sisters and two brothers.
Sarah was a member of the former Fort Custer Chapel. She volunteered for the American Red Cross on blood drives; and also at the former Leila Hospital. She enjoyed flowers, camping and traveling, especially to Puerto Rico. She loved music and sang at churches, for weddings and other special occasions. Sarah will be remembered for her singing, laughter, her smile, wit and outgoing personality.
A private family visitation will be held at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
