Scott Vincent Ellis

August 12, 1955 — November 27, 2025

Battle Creek

Scott Vincent Ellis, 70, of Battle Creek passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Scott was born August 12, 1955 in Battle Creek to Don and Norma (Manning) Ellis. He worked most of his life as a machinist, in Manistee and later at C.A. Picard in Battle Creek. Scott was always an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, duck hunting and camping. He was always up for anything and if his daughter came to him with a crazy idea or plan, he would just give the look, jump up, and say "Let's go and don't tell your mother about this".

In the spring, he enjoyed fishing for perch on Lake Michigan and then later, he enjoyed fishing for Walleye on Lake Erie. In the summer he enjoyed spending time on the lake and traveling the country with his wife, Bonnie. When the fall came, he hunted ducks on East Lake, in the Upper Peninsula. When he retired, his dream of being able to spend 4-6 weeks straight in the UP at the cabin for duck hunting season finally came true. The whole family knew early August he was itching to get everything ready and in place for "his season". He would return from the UP only just in time to deer hunt in the same spot, as he did for 40 years in Marshall. He always got one, and usually on opening day. Winter was spent keeping the snow cleared, working in his shop, and making plans to make next season’s hunting even better.

He also enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking and gardening. The family's homes are all completed with custom furniture, trim, and various things that he made. You can't look around without seeing something he enjoyed working on. If anybody ever told him they were having a problem figuring something out, he would think about it overnight and have drawings with the solution by morning.

Scott is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Lou (Walters) Ellis; daughter, Tamara (Ellis) Cary (Shane); siblings, Clare, Guy, Gena, Reed and Leslie; siblings-in-law, Karen Sly (Duane), John Walters (Laura Freeman), and Marilou Walters, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, mother and father-in-law, and brother-in-law Marc Walters.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be sent to the family.
