Shawn Michael Dougherty

December 15, 1972 — September 7, 2020

In the early morning of September 7, 2020 Shawn Michael Dougherty was tragically taken from his family and friends. He was born on December 15, 1972 and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan. He attended Harper Creek Community Schools from elementary through high school. After high school he attended Kellogg Community College & Western Michigan University earning an associates and bachelor's degree.

As Shawn grew up in the community, he was a part of many activities. He dedicated many hours at the Wattles Park Men's Club, when he was younger and as he started his own family. At the Wattles Park Men's Club, he was the commissioner of floor hockey, and coached in other sports as a volunteer or parent. He was also a part of the maintenance crew. He played and coached for Harper Creek Junior Football. Around the year of 2012 Shawn joined the Zoning Board of Emmett Township as chairman.

Shawn was an amazing person who always put others first. He was always there when someone called and helped everyone he could. He had many jobs but one of his favorites was helping those in need. He worked for the VA helping veterans. For him it was a rewarding job knowing he was helping people, and even after passing away he was able to help people by being a donor.

Shawn was married to Rachel Jean Jansen. They were married on July 31, 2004. They have been married 16 wonderful years. They had two children: a daughter, Mackenzie Ann Dougherty and a son, Connor Austin Dougherty.

He is survived by his wife: Rachel Jean Dougherty, his children: Mackenzie Ann Dougherty & Connor Austin Dougherty, his parents: Pat & LaNeta Dougherty, his brother and sister-in-law: Lance & Melanie Dougherty, his mother in-law and father in-law: Gerry & Gerry Jansen, his brother in-law and sister in-law: Darren & Trisha Jansen, and his nieces and nephews: Brianna Dougherty, Lance Dougherty Jr., O'Neill Dougherty, Audrianna Dougherty, Niko Jansen, and Phoebe Jansen. Others we would like to include since they were very close to Shawn are John Hart, a cousin that was more like a brother, Alba McKay an exchange student that was like a sister, and his very best friend of 24 years Guy Voss.

A viewing will be held Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for everyone that knows him and hopes to say goodbye at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A private family service will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the family (for his children) would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or donations may also be made in the name of Shawn Dougherty at any Kellogg Community Credit Union Branch. Personal messages for the family may be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
