Sheryl Kay Hoffman

March 6, 1955 — June 2, 2023

Richland

Sheryl Kay Hoffman of Richland, MI

Sheryl, age 68, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Friday morning, June 2, 2023.

She is the daughter of Earl C. and Evelyn (Evie) C. (Chalker) Hoffman. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on March 6, 1955. She was a lifetime area resident of Richland and graduated from Gull Lake Community High School in 1973.

In October 1988 Sheryl was in a car accident that ultimately changed her life. She may not have been able to walk but she definitely did not let that change how she lived. She made the best of everything she did. She was very active given her circumstances. She rode horses, parasailed on Lake Michigan, and also, snowmobiled and boated on Gull Lake. Sheryl’s favorite place to be was at Gull Lake!

She met many people in her lifetime from when she was bartending at the local Pubs and Restaurants before taking a full time job as a Rural Route Postal Carrier (Union Steward) in Richland. She loved being the Supervisor of the Off-Ice Officials for the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey Team. Sheryl was in that position for over 40 years.

Sheryl loved people. She would do anything she could for anyone. She was a very giving person who trusted everyone she ever met. With all she endured in her lifetime, she always had a smile and sense of humor for everyone she met.

She absolutely loved her dogs. She became the “Momma” to her mom’s two dogs after her mom passed away, along with all her other dogs that she so fondly loved and took care of until their passing. Her last surviving dog is Siara.

Sheryl is survived by her two brothers, Richard C. “Rick” (Linda) Hoffman of Richland and Russell E. (Carol Huskey) Hoffman of Vicksburg, MI; her sister, Susan L. (Robert) Alkema of Hickory Corners, MI and numerous nieces and nephews (that she adored). She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald E. Hoffman in October of 1952 and her parents Earl and Evie

The family would like to thank ALL of Sheryl’s aides/doctors throughout the years for everything they have done for her. You were a blessing!

“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together there is something you must always remember; you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.”

A Celebration of Sheryl’s Life will be held on Friday, July 28 at The Dock at Bayview, 12504 East D Ave, Richland MI 49083 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sheryl’s honor may be directed to The Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center, 8450 N.43rd Street, Augusta, MI 49012; the SPCA of Southwest MI, 6955 W. KL Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 or a charity of their choosing. Sheryl will be laid to rest in the Hoffman Family plot with a private, family graveside service in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral, Cremation Pre-Need Services, Richland Chapel is assisting Sheryl’s family.
