1936 Shirley 2026

Shirley Ann (Wright) Galli

Nov 2, 1936 — Sep 22, 2026

Shirley Ann (Wright) Galli, 89, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after a life well lived.

She was born November 2, 1936, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to John William and Rose Geraldine “Gerry” (Prill) Wright. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of St. Philip Catholic High School. Being a cheerleader was a highlight in her high school days. Shirley was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" James Galli on February 26, 1955. For 70 years they celebrated their wedding and every anniversary at Schuler’s in Marshall, Michigan. Shirley dedicated her days to Bob, her daughters, and the kids at Battle Creek Public Schools, where she worked as a secretary and retired from it in 1991.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. Surviving are their two daughters: Robin Galli of Indianapolis, IN and Debra O’Heran of Bloomington, IN; grandsons: Robert (Megan) O’Heran of Washington, D.C., Nicholas O’Heran of Eustis, Florida, Patrick (Maggie) O’Heran of Bloomington, IN; great-grandchildren: Mason, Charles, Amelia, Isaac, Jayleece; great great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen (Jack) Carbine; and brother William Wright.

Shirley loved her daughters and took great pride in their accomplishments. She and Bob were always there to cheer them on throughout their school days. Then came the grandsons and great-grandsons, changing their lives forever. Shirley enjoyed golfing and bowling with Bob in several couple’s leagues. She loved perfectly planning parties for the holidays and special occasions. Shirley’s hobbies through the years were crocheting, puzzles, gardening, quilting, and we can’t forget the casinos.

Her garden, with the help of Bob, was on the 16th Annual Summer Arboretum garden tour. She participated in many arts and craft shows with her quilting and crochet works. After her quilting days, her passion became playing bridge. Upon retiring, Shirley and Bob traveled south during the winter and she traveled throughout Europe with “The Girls”. The girl’s “Mystery Trips” were always a favorite. Shirley will be remembered for the twinkle in her eye and her dedication to striving for perfection as she made sure everyone around her was enjoying themselves.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. at FireKeepers Casino Hotel on November 2nd, 2026; what would have been Shirley's 90th birthday. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bob, at Memorial Park Cemetery following the celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Philip Catholic Central for girl’s cheerleaders or girls' sports, via BCACS, 63 North 24th Street Battle Creek, MI 49015.

Arrangements are by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Care. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
