Shirley Eugene (Coash) Palmer

Shirley Eugene Palmer, 90, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday June 3, 2022 in Portage, Michigan.
Shirley was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Norman L. Coash and Helen (Crapo) Coash on September 29, 1931. She went to school and graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1949. She married Paul Lee Palmer on February 19, 1949, in Battle Creek, Michigan. She worked various jobs while raising her children including working for a CPA office and Kellogg's.
Shirley spent much of her life developing housing plans and building houses with her husband, Paul. They also enjoyed spending a lot of time at Gun Lake boating, camping, and skiing. Once they retired, they spent time traveling all over the United States in their Airstream trailer which they absolutely loved!! They successfully traveled to 48 states and would send their children and grandchildren postcards from each state. Shirley and Paul also owned "Shirley's Doghouse" and would travel locally to fairs such as the Ionia Free Fair, Charlton Park, and Farm Days in Hickory Corners for many years.
In addition to traveling, Shirley was an avid quilter. She would spend hours of every day in her sewing room making quilts for her family and friends. She won countless awards at the hundreds of quilting shows she would attend with her quilting family throughout her life.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Paul Lee Palmer and daughter-in-law Debra Sue Palmer.
Shirley is survived by a son, David Alan Palmer, a daughter, Paula Jean (Palmer) Baryo; sister, Norma (Coash) Storm; grandchildren, Angela (Angel) Rojas, Amy (Brandon) Bruce, Trevor (Stephanie) Baryo, Shaun (Becky) Palmer, and Brooke (Michael) Hayward; and 11 great-grandchildren.
