Sophie Rose Bremer

Sophie R. Bremer, 89, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016.

She was born in Battle Creek on July 19, 1927, to John and Josephine Kulik and graduated from St. Phillip Catholic High School. She had two sisters, one of which was her twin, who preceded her in death on March 13, 2009.

Sophie met the love of her life, Marvin and they married in 1952. The two became faithful members of the Battle Creek Christian Reformed Church (now the Covenant Hope Church). They were very involved in starting and supporting the Battle Creek Christian School. Marvin sadly preceded her in death on July 30, 1988.

She was employed at the Weston Cookie Company in Battle Creek before having her three children and devoting her time to them. Her life revolved around her family and friends. Sophie loved volunteering and had done so at various places. She worked many years with the Pennfield Schools as a playground supervisor. She loved tending to her flowers, bird watching and being with her beloved pets.

Sophie is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Casey of Virginia, her oldest son, Mark Bremer of Richland, her youngest son, Greg (Lisa) Bremer of Grand Rapids, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Covenant Hope Church, 1021Wagner Drive, Battle Creek, MI at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016.
