Steve, age 90, died Monday morning (Veterans' Day), November 11, 2013, at his son's residence and surrounded by his loving family.


Steve, the son of Stephen and Elizabeth (Dobronyi) Nyitray, Sr., was born on December 24, 1922 in Kalamazoo, MI; he was a lifetime resident and a 1938 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Sergeant during World War II. His outfit was the 805th AAF BU serving as a radio operator, where he sent and received International Morse Code and went for training as a Pilot. Steve retired in 1984 as an Inspection Foreman for the now, Parker-Hanifan Corporation of Kalamazoo after 38 years of faithful service. Steve was an avid fisherman; enjoyed a round of golf, wherever and whenever; he was a consummate Putterer and was a Snowbird, wintering along the Gold Coast of Florida.


Steve was united in marriage to the former Virginia Garrett, who preceded him in death on June 15, 1979. Surviving is his daughter, Carole G. Nyitray of Kalamazoo; his two sons, Dennis Nyitray of Palm Springs, CA and David (Sandy) Nyitray of Climax, MI; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nyitray-Woodard and Jeff Nyitray, both of Climax and David Nyitray of Kalamazoo; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; his sister, Grace Augustine of Bourbon, IN; his brother, Rev. John (Marie) Nyitray of Holland, MI and a special friend for the past 27 years, Lois Quinn. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stephen on December 24, 1994; four sisters, Bernice, Ethel, Irma and Elizabeth and his brother, Bill.


The Graveside Service to celebrate Steve's life will be held on Friday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI with the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the Fort Custer Honor Guard bestowing Full, Military Honors. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to continue Steve's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon that will follow the graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at his son, Dave's residence, 12398 East MN Avenue, Climax, MI 49034. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve's honor may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite #100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007
