Sue Hayes, 74, of Battle Creek, died peacefully at her sister's home, in the loving care of her family on Thursday, October 22, 2015.
She was born May 3, 1941 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Raynor and Marion (Hirleman) Everhart. Sue grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1959 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She was employed at Schuler's in Marshall for 30+ years as a server. Over the years, Sue became one of the most requested servers at Schuler's. She loved her job and even when illness prevented her from working, Sue did not retire; she only consented to go on leave. Sue was also a 30+ year dedicated employee and an extended member of the family at Meyer's Toy World.
SueAnn Inez Everhart was united in marriage to James Patrick Hayes on July 7, 1962 at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are Jim, her husband of 53 years; daughter, Theresa (Steve) Clement of Battle Creek; two sons, Tim (Lori) Hayes of East Leroy, John (Shauna) Hayes of Grand Haven; son-in-law, Chuck (Sheri) Winget of Battle Creek; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister and guardian angel, Dolores "Dolly" (Alan) Shepard of Battle Creek; four brothers, Tom Everhart of New York, and Jerry Everhart, Jeff Everhart, Mark Everhart all of Battle Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Sue was sadly preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Beth Ann Winget on June 4, 1997; and a granddaughter, Samantha Winget on September 15, 1987.
Sue was baptized at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church and remained a member there her entire life, where she participated in Perpetual Adoration. She was a volunteer in the Franklin Food Pantry for the Food Bank of South Central Michigan. Sue was actively involved with her high school reunion committee since graduation. Sue loved her family, was always helping and serving others; and more than anything Sue put her family first.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. October 26, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John D. Fleckenstein 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at St. Philip Catholic Church, 92 Capital Ave. N.E., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
