Thomas G. “Tom” O’Heran, age 88 of Hastings passed away Tuesday morning, June 13, 2023. He was born in Battle Creek on January 7, 1935, the son of Philip and Hazel (Spaulding) O’Heran and graduated from Battle Creek Central with the Class of 1953. Tom proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Reserves. He provided for his family as a meat cutter at the A&P in Hastings and Jewel-Osco in Kalamazoo, where he retired.
Tom married his cherished wife, Kathryn (Johnson) O’Heran in Battle Creek on June 12, 1955; she sadly preceded him in death on February 27, 2002. He is survived by his sons, Timothy of Nashville, Michael (Corinne) of Delton, and Kerry (Scarlet) O’Heran of Paw Paw; eleven grandchildren, Anthony, Kylee (Tim), Jason (Kelly), Nick (Kayla), Katelin (Brent), Anne (Ben), Zachary (Candice), Jason, Taylor (Cynthia), Nicole (Dustin), and CC; and 14 great-grandchildren. Tom was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles; and his dear cousin, Virginia.
Extremely proud of his military service, Tom was a member of the Hastings American Legion Post #45, the American Legion Post #45 Legion Riders, and attended the Pleasantview Family Church. A true family man, Tom served as 4-H leader when his sons were younger and loved spending time with his family. He volunteered many hours in the food service at the Calhoun County Fair and Hawthorne Park in Leesburg, FL. He thoroughly enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing softball, and his many trips to livestock auctions.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 9th at the Pleasantview Family Church, 2601 Lacey Rd. Dowling, MI 49050. Light refreshments will be served after the celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Hastings American Legion Post #45 Legion Riders, 2160 S.
