Thomas C. West, 72, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019. Tom was born July 18, 1947 in Battle Creek to Claude and Neta (White) West. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. He then started to learn his trade with his father's company before beginning his career as a plumber, working in the Battle Creek area for many years.
Tom loved to fish and golf. He loved to travel to Northern Michigan and to his brother's home in beautiful Ontario, Canada, as well as golfing in Phoenix in the winters. He cheered on the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, and even the Lions. When his children were younger, he helped coach their little league teams at Wattles Park Men's Club. Tom loved to spend time with his family and friends and help them out whenever he could.
Tom is survived by his three children, Kimberly (Jose Miguel) Sanchez, Kari (Tim) Castleberry, Thom (Andrea) West; four grandchildren, Sage and Maya Castleberry, Ashely (Adam) Peck, Emily St. John, former wife and special friend, Lou Ann Tuller and a newly found brother, Lewis (Jean) Palmer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters Kathryn and Kassandra West and his former wife and friend Bev Laitila.
A memorial visitation will be Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the program that saved Tom's life, the Life Recovery Program at the Haven of Rest.
