Timothy "Tim" Dobos, age 95, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2015. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 4, 1920, the loving son of Michael and Anna (Gergley) Dobos and attended St. Philip Catholic School. Tim faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.
The son of a single mother who was an immigrant from Hungary, Timothy worked various jobs to provide for himself and his family as a young man. During his time in the military, Timothy was educated in Metallurgy and mechanics. After being discharged from the military, Tim and his brother, Adorjan Dobos started Dobos Brothers Gas Station later known as Dobos Lawnmower and was a successful business owner known throughout the community.
Tim was generous and donated to several organizations; St. Jerome and St. Phillip Catholic Churches and the Haven of Rest; he sponsored a number of children from other countries for years, sponsored the children's bowling league and drove a school bus for St. Jerome's. He mowed the church lawns for years and was a member of the American Legion Post 298.
Tim married the "Love of His Life", Beatrice A. "Bea" Bowers on December 31, 1945; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Ann McHale of Battle Creek, Lawrence Dobos of Wayland, Michigan, and Nancy Weirick of Battle Creek; his grandchildren, Randy Crawford, Jennifer Blowers, Denise Mann, Shannon Underwood, Melissa Toyoshima, Kevin McHale, Patrick McHale, and 10 great-grandchildren. Tim was sadly preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Adorjan Dobos.
Tim was a long standing member of the YMCA and enjoyed swimming. He was one of the oldest people to compete in the yearly Goguac Lake Swim. He was able to swim until the age of 94. Tim also liked motorcycles, sailing, camping, fishing with his friends, computers, building airplanes, gardening and spending time with his family. Tim always lived his life thinking about what he could do verses what he couldn't do; he had an extraordinary work ethic and worked hard his entire life. He will be remembered by friends and family for his generosity, wisdom, support, loyalty and witty sense of humor.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Tim's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
