Valdine C. "Val" (Keeney) Martin, formerly of Battle Creek died at Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI on Friday, January 23, 2015.
Val was born August 10, 1921 in Homer, Michigan to Harold and Lila (Garey) Keeney. She was a 1940 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Val was employed part-time at Jacobson's in Battle Creek for 20 years. She was secretary to her husband at Martin-Vogt Plating for 6 years; and she was a receptionist at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home 1991-99.
Valdine C. Keeney was united in marriage to Donald K. Martin on August 7, 1942 in Battle Creek. Val was preceded in death by her husband, Don "Babe" Martin on September 7, 2007; and by her daughter, Dianne Kay Shipley on April 14, 1996. Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Tim) Martin- Haynes of Wyoming, MI, son, Donald G. (Becky) Martin of Tyler, TX; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and their families. Val was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Karleen and William Blackmar.
Val was a former member of the First Congregational Church. She was a long time and active member of Riverside Country Club and the former Riverside Bowling League. She was a member of the 487th Bomb Group reunion auxiliary, formerly active in the PTA and co-chaired her 50th high school reunion. Val enjoyed playing Bridge, golfing, bowling, liked to travel and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Friends will be received the hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
