Venus Mitchell

Venus Mitchell, beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 57 on April 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  

Born on February 3, 1967 in the vibrant city of Battle Creek, Venus was the daughter of Ramona Potter. She grew up in a tight-knit community where she quickly gained a reputation for her kindness, integrity, and unwavering determination.  

Beyond her working as a dedicated home-care aide, Venus was a devoted family women and was very family oriented. Venus will forever be cherished by many, with her kindness, upbeat personality, and unwavering will to support friends and family.

Venus’ impact extended far beyond her family and work.  She was a pillar of her community. Volunteering her time, skills, and resources to anyone in need.  Her compassion and generosity touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. 

In her free time, Venus loved cooking and spending time with her family and listening to music.   Venus will be remembered for her helping hand, unwavering optimism, and her profound love for life.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and literary brilliance that will continue to inspire generations to come. 

Venus was always happy and outgoing.  She loved to talk and had a very competitive and adventurous spirit. Venus attended Urbandale Baptist Church.  

Venus is survived by her mother, Ramona Potter; her three sons, Scott(Shay), Caleb (Ashely) and Josh, all of Battle Creek; her 12 grandchildren that meant everything to her, Jaylaya, Joshua Jr., Jeremiah, Jaynaya, Jess, Jayanna, Jceyana, Jala, Leilani, Scott III., Kris and Jacalea; one great-grandchild, Keair; brothers, Corey (Kimberly Ross) and Jesse (Latasha) Potter Jr.; sister, Toni Potter; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Erma Griffin.    She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Potter and nephew, Jalen Potter.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16th at the Urbandale Baptist Church, 19 Geiger Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49037, where Celebration of Life services will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Urbandale Baptist Church.  Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.   Personal messages for the family and favorite memories of Venus may be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
