Vera C. Smith

Vera C. Smith, age 90, of Battle Creek went to be with her Lord in Heaven on Sunday morning, October 11, 2015 at the Laurels of Bedford. She was born to Albert and Catherine McMillan in Erin, Tennessee on December 11, 1924. Vera was happily married to Paul A. Smith Sr. for 39 years until he passed in 1983. She loved music and telling stories to her family. Vera found Christ as her Savior in her later years. More recently, she has been dealing with Alzheimer's and had been living at the Laurels of Bedford.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Smith Sr.; her brother, Albert "Bud" McMillan; and her sisters, Margaret Briggs and Olive Arbogast. She is survived by her children, John (Barbara) Smith of Battle Creek, Paul A. (Phyllis) Smith Jr. of Virginia, Christine McNamee of Florida, and Laurie (David) Medlen of Illinois; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Vera's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday with Rick McNally, Associate Pastor of South Side Bible Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Hicks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Laurels of Bedford Activity Department.
