Verda L. Himebaugh, age 89, of Battle Creek died Saturday morning, September 6, 2014 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. She was born in Battle Creek on May 27, 1925, the loving daughter of Clifford W. and Vera L. (Bricker) Himebaugh and graduated from Lakeview High School. Verda retired from Clark Equipment after several years of faithful service.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents; her life partner, Geraldine Kern; a brother, Gary Himebaugh, and a sister, Carolyn Keifer. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Himebaugh; her nieces & nephews, Roger (Debra) Reed, Lee (Susan) Fischer, Jodi (Jeff) Knighton, Judi (Dennis) Green, and several great-nieces & nephews, and cousins.
Verda was a true cat lover and loved to travel. She also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Battle Creek Bowling Hall of Fame. In her younger years, Verda enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball & baseball, and knew many of the players in the women's baseball league that the movie "A League of Their Own" was based upon.
The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday with Pastor Gordon Pippin of Central Christian Church, officiating.
