Virginia K. "Ginny" Berry, 90, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Richland died peacefully on Wednesday evening, June 26, 2013. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 30, 1922, the loving daughter of Albert and Marie (Muller) Diekema.
Ginny married John "Jack" Richard Berry in Parchment on November 4, 1942, and last year, they proudly celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary; he sadly preceded her in death on December 6, 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Charlie) Hoerner of Portland, Oregon, Cyndee (Steve Sleeman) deGraaf of Plainwell and Becky (Michael) Barron of Portage; 5 grandchildren, Andrea & Jessica Hoerner, Jeff (Lynette) deGraaf, Shaun (Allison) & Kyle Williams, and 4 great-grandchildren, William, Brady & Connor deGraaf and Bennett Williams.
Ginny was an avid Bridge player and was a member of several Bridge clubs. A very active and athletic lady, she enjoyed playing golf, skiing, playing tennis and was a member of the Gull Lake and Lake Doster Country Clubs. A true matriarch, Ginny was a devoted wife, mother & grandmother, and she truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At the request of the family, a memorial gathering to celebrate Ginny's life will be held 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home-Richland Chapel, 9170 East D. Ave. (M-89), Richland, MI 49083. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army of Kalamazoo or Southern Care Hospice.
