Virginia Marie (Cooley) Nightingale, age 70, of Kalamazoo, MI, died Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence of Kalamazoo, following a lengthy illness.

Virginia, the daughter of John and Grace (McKaig) Cooley, was born on January 23, 1942 in Detroit, MI. She was a graduate Our Lady of Mercy High School in Detroit; receieved her Bachelor Degree in Education from Siena Heights and her Master Degrees in Education from Michigan State University. Virginia retired in 2002 from the Stockbridge (MI) School System, where she had been an Elementary and Middle School Teacher. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines-Mid Lakes Chorus and loved to play a round of golf. The most important part of her life centered around her six, precious grandchildren.

On August 18, 1969 in Detroit, MI, Virginia was united in marriage to Charles Randall Nightingale and he survives. Also surviving is her daughter, Elise M. (Mike) Millmier of Richland, MI; her son, Jeffrey E. (Allison) Nightingale of Mokena, IL; her six precious grandchildren, Jack, Sam and Raegan Millmier and Olivia, Lukas and Isla Nightingale and her sister, Margaretann (Richard) Whitney of Novi, MI. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.

Virginia's family will receive friends for a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, January 23rd from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89). Final interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Virginia's honor may be made to Hospice of Southwestern Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
