Wayne Richard Murray, age 81, of Leesburg, VA and formerly of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday morning, January 25, 2022. He was born in Battle Creek on November 26, 1940, the loving son of Paul William and Ruth Helena (Hathaway) Murray and graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1958. Wayne furthered his education at Michigan Tech, Olivet College and the Michigan Agricultural College (Michigan State University) and served his country as a member of the Air National Guard. He worked for more than 30 years as a Senior Business Analyst for the Oracle Corporation.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Melanie Murray of West Virginia and Nicole Murray of Lansing; his grandchildren, Alex, Joshua & Amber Zemko, Victoria Hicks, Brandon Roe, Justin Murray and Jennifer Miller; three great-grandchildren, Benecio Hicks, Aubriana & Reagan Miller; a brother, Dale Murray; a sister, Lynne Converse; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen David Murray; his former wife, Rhoda Murray; and a special companion, Victoria Estes-Grof.
Wayne had a special love for reading and listening to classical music. He also enjoyed watching Crime TV Dramas, deer hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and his cats. Wayne will be fondly remembered as the best tour guide in Washington D.C. and enjoyed showing everyone the sites to be seen in our Nation's Capital.
Wayne's family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where funeral services to celebrate his life will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday. The service will be Live-Streamed and may be viewed at https://vimeo.com/670900641. Interment will follow at the Hicks West Pennfield Cemetery.
