Wesley Charles "Wes" Sonicksen

Wesley Charles "Wes" Sonicksen, 92 of Battle Creek passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence with his family at his side.

Wes was born October 25, 1927 in Battle Creek to George and Olive Eliza (Darling) Sonicksen. He grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School. During high school he was employed at the Battle Creek Farm Bureau and then as a parking attendant at Security National Bank.

Wes was drafted into the U.S. Army and honorably served his country in the European Occupation. When he returned from the service he worked again for SNB. Wes was then employed for H.L. DePriester doing concrete construction. Wes was a 58 year member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, Local 871 (now #525) and was employed and retired from Associated Construction Company.

In 1946, while serving in the U.S. Army overseas, Wes met the love of his life, Anna Luise "Ann" Schneider. They were married on December 3, 1948 in Stuttgart Feuerbach Germany. Surviving are Ann, his wife of 71 years; two daughters, Diane Lutz of Battle Creek, Pat (Mark) Donley of Jackson, MI; four grandchildren, Jenny (Jared) Sutton, Jim (Darci) Dotson, Heather Elwell, Michelle (Ramsey) Cross and six great-grandchildren, Skyler, Mackenzie, Caleb, Zach, Rebecca and Elizabeth.

Wes has been an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church since 1957. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, softball, bowling and watching golf on TV. Wes loved spending time with his family and helping them or anyone with carpentry projects. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of God and a loving, caring man.

Friends will be received 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. A service to celebrate Wes' life will immediately follow visitation. Committal and interment will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
