Willard James Vaughn

Willard J. Vaughn, age 88, of Pennfield Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo MI.

Willard was born December 9, 1929 in Monterey, Tennessee to Curtis and Marie (Wilson) Vaughn. Willard married Jean (McCowan) in 1950 and they moved to Battle Creek in 1951. Willard attended Maple United Methodist Church. Willard retired after 30 plus years from Post Cereal and went on to enjoy 30 plus years of retirement. He was always active in his church serving in leadership positions and volunteering in any way he could to help others. Willard was always the go to Dad, Pa and Great Pa that would repair anything his family needed help with. He was still fixing and tinkering until the last few months he was with us. A funny man with a dry sense of humor and a great love for family and friends he will be so missed.

Willard is survived by his daughters, Alphia Snyder of Battle Creek and Connie Vaughn of Delton; grandchildren, Devyss (Joe) Hamilton, Mandi (Mark) Keady, Breanna (Justin) Weal, Lisa (Tom) Lamb, and Mikelah Snell; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Emily Hamilton, Piper and London Keady, Sophia and Ella Weal and Justin, Mekenzie, Kelsie, and Katelyn Lamb; sisters, Fern Campbell, Anna Collins, Bonnie Bartlett, Maxine Hite, Wilma Swank; and brothers, Bill Vaughn, Almer Vaughn and Donnie Vaughn. His best friend and 24-hour companion, "Annie" his yellow lab misses him but knows that they will see each other again. Willard was preceded in death by his wife Jean; his parents; his brother, Sheridan Vaughn; and sisters, Betty Eads and Gwen Loftis.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Maple United Methodist Church, 342 Capital Ave. NE, where a memorial service to celebrate Willard's life will be held at 12:00 noon. The family sincerely thanks all of his caregivers that helped make his life remain a quality life. Memorials may be given to the Maple United Methodist Church or Rose Arbor Hospice.
